On Wednesday, July 26, Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee Representative Jeffrey Sánchez spoke at our Policymaker Roundtable at Associated Grant Makers. MNN nonprofit and affiliate members joined to hear Rep. Sánchez articulate his vision for his work in a position that, as the primary driver behind the House side of the annual budgeting process, exerts a significant amount of influence on the state’s priorities.
Rep. Sánchez, who has a little over a week in his influential post, said that his first strategy as Chairman was to listen to Massachusetts residents and the concerns they voice. He recognized that in the current climate, many people are uncertain and in need of services, with members of the nonprofit sector often serving on the front lines. “I’m here to work with all of you,” he said. “You see and hear a lot, and you’re in front of people who feel like they don’t have anything.”
“You are going to have to talk to us for real,” Rep. Sánchez added. “Help us understand so we can address the immediate challenges.”
