Staff Accountant   About us: The Massachusetts Service Alliance (MSA) expands volunteerism and service in Massachusetts by providing individuals and organizations with funding, training, and support, which enables them to strengthen communities and make our Commonwealth a better place to live.   Through our services we engage over 1,400 AmeriCorps and Commonwealth Corps members and thousands of volunteers annually, improving academic and social and emotional outcomes for 13,600 youth, maintaining over 400 acres of park and public lands and 92 miles of trails and rivers, and providing legal assistance to 4,475 low-income individuals.   We care passionately about our service and volunteerism and our employees.    Job Description Summary The Staff Accountant will have primary responsibility for the day-to-day accounting functions. The position covers a wide range of duties and requires someone with the ability to move through multiple areas throughout the day. Familiarity with basic accounting procedures and compliance with GAAP along with internal controls is needed.  The person will have the ability to think through process and procedures and understand what and why an entry or work is being done. With the guidance of the Controller, the Staff Accountant would be involved with accounts payable, cash management, payroll, and grant funding. The Staff Accountant will interact with our Program team and the Grants and Fiscal Compliance Officer.   Responsibilities   Coordinate the full accounts payable cycle Process Payroll in Paychex Flex; enter and allocate all payroll and fringe to appropriate grants and activities in NetSuite Process all accounts receivable including drawdowns from government funds Weekly Cash Forecast Prepare journal entries for month end close Reconciliations for assigned general ledger accounts Assist in preparation of materials for yearend close and audit Assist with compliance testing of sub-grantee operations. The ability to prioritize deadlines. Projects as requested. Responsibilities may be adjusted depending upon experience and skill set. Experience Bachelor's degree in accounting with a minimum of 3-4 years of experience, preferably within a non-profit setting. Exposure to grant-funded organizations. Familiarity with month-end closing procedures and audit preparation. Ideal skills set: Advanced Excel, preferably experience with Oracle NetSuite, knowledge of ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) systems, and professional communication skills required.
