SENIOR GRANT WRITER Position Summary
The Senior Grant Writer works alongside fundraising professionals and program staff to meet the organization’s annual revenue targets for foundation, corporate, and government grants. As part of a team of two writers, the Senior Grant Writer reports to the Director of Development to obtain grant funding from private, community, and family foundations as well as grants from corporate and government sources. On a given year, grants are responsible for 45-50% of our overall operating budget of over $2M. 

 

 

 

Duties and Responsibilities 

 

Strategic Organizational and Development Work

●  Support Director of Development and senior staff in strategic planning and projecting grants revenue to aid in annual budget forecasting, planning, and monitoring.

●  Track and monitor progress toward reaching fundraising goals by managing grants projections and grants received on a monthly and quarterly basis.

●  Analyze grants processes and proactively improve existing systems, and policies and procedures to ensure efficiency. 

●  Attend and support key fundraising and programming events such as BASH, Exhibit opening, annual Film Screening, and Senior Graduation Dinner as needed. 

●  Commitment to supporting work through a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) lens.

 

 

Foundation, Corporate, and Government Grant Funding  
●  Lead discussions and nurture relationships with foundation administrators to understand their priorities and to build compelling and informed proposals.

●  Track proposal and reporting guidelines and deadlines, and collect submission requirements from key staff members.

●  Translate new organizational strategies, plans, and areas of focus into narrative format through development of an annual boilerplate.

●  Develop well-researched, tailored, and high-impact proposals, reports, acknowledgment letters, and other grant-related deliverables through authentic, effective, and compelling communication in a voice that reflects RAW’s mission, programs, and goals.  

●  Work closely with program staff and Leadership Team members to identify new funding needs, strategize around grant opportunities, and determine appropriate proposal approach, timeline, and deliverables.  

●  Work with key staff to collect proposal components, e.g. budgets, attachments, supporting documents.

●  Upon receiving awards, works closely with program staff to ensure that grant requirements are met.

●  Engage Director of Development, Executive Director, other senior staff, and youth to schedule and orchestrate meetings and site visits with funders and strategize the most impactful visit formats. 

●  Ensure effective administration of grant-related documents and records;, including maintaining and updating the database, and ensuring that thoughtful acknowledgement letters are sent promptly. 

●  Steward and cultivate relationships through relationship management of a portfolio of 100+ government, foundation, and corporate entities.

●  Manage a detailed calendar of all grants-related deadlines including utilizing the database to strategize approaches and map deadlines for newly-identified funding sources.

●  Collect published external data, such as regional demographics, education data, and current events, to support grantseeking efforts.

●  Use RAW’s participant database to prepare, analyze, and report on demographics and student participant data for grant reports and proposals, and donor cultivations.

●  Other work as requested from the Director of Development or Executive Director.  

 

Qualifications

●       3-5 years of demonstrated success in foundation, corporate, and government relations.

●       Familiarity with funding community in Greater Boston and beyond.

●       Excellent interpersonal skills

●       Internet skills and computer literacy in word processing, spreadsheets, and database management and gift processing (Results Plus)

●       Exceptional level of personal organization and attention to detail, with strong project and process planning skills (systems)

●       Proven ability to work under pressure and on a range of time-sensitive projects simultaneously

●       Occasional evening and weekend event support. Must have reliable transportation.


Educational Requirement: Bachelor’s degree preferred. A wide range of disciplines is acceptable.
