Job Description

Program Overview Youth Villages’ Continuum program will provide an array of intensive community-based, wraparound services designed to divert at-risk youth from out-of-home placements whenever possible. The primary goal of our Continuum is to maintain youth within their home and school, support families/caregivers, and help ensure maximum safety for the youth, family, and community. Youth Villages views the children and families we serve as the experts on their own lives; therefore, all of our continuum services are family-driven, youth-guided, and strength-based. This level of family involvement leads to increased family engagement; family engagement leads to improving the quality of treatment; and treatment quality leads to consistently high outcomes.   Position Overview The Master Level Clinician is provided to youth to support their involvement in the community. This may include:
  • Family Interventions targeted toward identifying and addressing family strengths and needs related to issues of permanency
  • Individualized, trauma-informed behavior support interventions with the youth and family that are provided at home and in the community.
  • In-home family treatment to help the family meet their child’s needs in the home, including:  Teaching behavior support techniques and skills to families.
  • Work with parents/guardians to support them in:
  • Securing access to other services, entitlements, and benefits.
  • Engaging their child’s local school to ensure that he/she has an educational plan that meets his/her needs.
  • Strengthening their capacity to address obstacles to parenting, such as mental illness, home management, etc.
  • Promoting safety within the home environment.
  • Strengthening home management skills.
  • Ensuring their child’s basic needs are met, e.g. food, shelter, clothing, personal hygiene
  • Promoting their child’s participation in developmentally appropriate activities, including regular exercise and physical activity.
  • Attending to self-care in order to sustain their engagement in the challenges entailed in supporting their child.
  • Assisting the youth and family in identifying and engaging natural supports in their community and extended family.
Additional Information
  • Schedule is flexible and non-traditional; based around the availability of youth and families served.
  • Applicants must have a valid driver’s license, a personal vehicle to use for work purposes and auto insurance.
  • Community Based staff will be reimbursed for applicable mileage
  • Since counselors are heavily involved with each family, long hours may be required. Counselors provide treatment in individual families' homes in a wide array of settings and communities
  • Carry a small caseload of 6 youth; providing 2-3 hours of face to face family visits a week
  • Participate in an on-call schedule
Requirements
  • A Master’s degree in a social services discipline is required with one year experience working with youth and families
  • Degrees that can be considered include: social work, drug and alcohol education or counseling, psychology, guidance counseling, or marriage and family therapy. Other degrees will have to be evaluated further to determine if they meet the qualifications.
  • Independent licensure or licensure eligible strongly preferred
  • At least six months experience working with the intensive in-home services is strongly preferred
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to lead and develop staff
  • Excellent cultural awareness and sensitivity
  • Must be able to work with people of different backgrounds, languages and ethnicities.
