About BEDF
BEDF is the fiscal sponsor and fundraising partner to the Boston Public Schools (BPS). BEDF facilitates the access to philanthropic opportunities for the purpose of enhancing educational opportunities for BPS students and educators that would otherwise be limited or not available to them. BEDF partners with schools, funders, and BPS to provide fiscal sponsorship and operations services to complementary programs and strategic initiatives. BEDF provides fundraising support to schools and programs for them to sustain their operations and expand their educational impact. 

Job Summary
BEDF seeks a dynamic and hands-on Finance Manager who is excited to join a small and diverse team delivering a big impact in making enriching educational opportunities available to K-12 public schools in Boston. The Finance Manager works closely with school leaders and program managers to support the administration and accounting of private-funded instructional programs under fiscal sponsorship.

The Finance Manager will review payments, reconcile external revenue, and support the administrative operations of programs in a fully paperless environment. This position is responsible for the bookkeeping and oversight of roughly 550 accounts. She/he will work in close collaboration with program managers to track budgets and produce reports. This position is comfortable with the use of grants management and accounting software and enjoys the use of technology applications in accounting and finance.

Responsibilities: 

Accounting (45%)
  • Monitor revenue deposited in bank accounts and post related entries.
  • Review payments as requested by program managers.
  • Oversee fund transactions and reconcile ending balances. 
  • Produce accounting reports for internal, tax, and audit purposes. 
  • Recommend and implement enhanced internal controls and procedures.  

Grants Management (35%)
  • Manage and track BPS employee stipend process.
  • Collaborate in the upkeep of the grants management system and accounting software.
  • Troubleshoot Salesforce inquiries. Act as the second administrator of Salesforce.
  • Manage outreach and training for new school/department fund managers and staff. 
  • Produce grant reports for internal use; support the full grant reporting process to external funders.

Accounts Payable (10%)
  • Enter weekly payment batches in treasury software.
  • Serve as second contact for all bank and treasury inquiries.
 
Operations & Administration (10%)
  • Onboard and maintain Amazon Business users. Oversee the adequate utilization of the service.
  • Collaborate in capacity-building projects, process improvement, and other related activities to improve the effectiveness of the organization’s work, including but not limited to development operations support.
  • Support internal operations projects as needed. 
  • Support Board Finance and Investment Committee.

Qualifications
Candidates should be comfortable working in a fast-paced, collaborative, and entrepreneurial environment. A successful candidate will possess:
  • Minimum of three years experience in accounting, business management, grants management or financial operations, preferably in K-12 or the nonprofit sector. Knowledge of fund accounting is a plus. 
  • Master knowledge of MS Office Suite, especially Excel; working knowledge of accounting and payroll software (i.e. QuickBooks or Sage 50, ADP or Paychex); and knowledge of Google suite apps. Familiarity with CRM software or Treasury apps is desirable.
  • Ability to understand and follow through accounting and grant policies. Superb attention to detail is necessary to succeed in this role.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, particularly in translating grant or extensive information into easy-to-follow action items, operating procedures, and training materials. Ability to communicate tax and accounting guidelines concisely. 
  • Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills, cultural humility and aptitude to collaboratively work with school-based staff and other education professionals.

Salary
Salary is commensurate with experience but anticipated to be in the $65-$70K range
