Job Description

The Executive Director is the key management leader of Natick Service Council, Inc. The Natick Service Council (“NSC”) is an independent, non-profit organization that connects, engages, and collaborates with the community to support Natick neighbors. NSC serves as an advocacy, referral, case management and information center for Natick’s most economically disadvantaged individuals and families, with the mission of helping clients in meeting basic needs for food, housing, and access to health care, with the goal of promoting self-sufficiency. NSC is guided by the motto “Neighbors Helping Neighbors” in serving fellow Natick community members with dignity, compassion and confidentiality. The Executive Director plays a key role in carrying out this mission with responsibility for overseeing the administration, programs and strategic plan of the organization. Other major duties include fundraising, marketing, and community outreach. The position is full-time and reports directly to the Board of Directors.

 GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

 1)     Board Governance: Works with board in order to fulfill the organization mission.

  •  Responsible for leading NSC in a manner that supports and guides the organization’s mission as defined by the Board of Directors.
  • Responsible for communicating effectively with the Board and providing, in a timely and accurate manner, all information necessary for the Board to function properly and to make informed decisions.
  • Assists in effectively carrying out the Board’s objectives as the governing body of the organization, including board recruitment, participation in policy deliberations and establishing policies and procedures.
  • Assists the Board with organizing committees and aids in defining and attaining strategic objectives.

 2)    Financial Performance and Viability: Develops resources sufficient to ensure the financial health of the organization.

  • Responsible for the fiscal integrity of NSC, to include submission to the Board of a proposed annual budget and monthly financial statements, which accurately reflect the financial condition of the organization.
  • Responsible for fiscal management that generally anticipates operating within the approved budget, ensures maximum resource utilization, and maintenance of the organization in a positive financial position.
  • Responsible for fundraising and developing other revenues necessary to support NSC’s mission, including but not limited to:
    • Annual membership and holiday appeals.
    • Development and implementation of corporate sponsorship programs.
    • Identification of new contributors, benefactors, and planned giving opportunities.
    • Maintenance of donor relationships
  • Responsible for Identifying and leading the application process for new grants and for the management of existing grant programs.

 3)     Organization Mission and Strategy: Works with board and staff to ensure that the mission is fulfilled through programs, strategic planning and community outreach.

  • Responsible for implementation of NSC’s programs that carry out the organization’s mission.
  • Responsible for strategic planning to ensure that NSC can successfully fulfill its mission into the future.
  • Responsible for the enhancement of NSC’s image by being active and visible in the community and by working closely with other professional, civic and private organizations, with emphasis on:
    • Interacting directly with community agencies, and religious and civic organizations.
    • Representing NSC on appropriate community committees
    • Participating in conferences/workshops related to the mission of NSC.
    • Publicizing NSC objectives, programs and projects through various media outlets.

4)    Organization Operations: Oversees and implements appropriate resources to ensure that the operations of the organization are appropriate.

  • Responsible for the hiring and retention of competent, qualified staff.
  • Responsible effective administration of NSC’s operations.
  • Responsible for signing all notes, agreements, and other instruments made and entered into and on behalf of the organization.

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree; master’s degree a plus.
  • Five or more years management experience; nonprofit experience, a plus.
  • Leadership, organizational, motivational and presentation skills.
  • Experience and skill in working with a Board of Directors.
  • High level strategic thinking and planning.
  • Demonstrated ability to oversee and collaborate with staff and volunteers.
  • A history of successfully generating new revenue streams and improving financial results.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
