This position will provide direct support to the Southcoast Food Policy Council (“SFPC”). The SFPC’s mission is to connect, convene, and advocate for local food producers, consumers, and community leaders who seek policy and systems that strengthen our regional food system, improve community health, and eliminate food insecurity. Primary Duties & Responsibilities: 

Administrative Support to the Executive Director

  • Compose routine correspondence and reports for the Executive Director 
  • Schedule external meetings between the MI and community partners
  • Record minutes of relevant meetings involving the Executive Director
  • Assist with travel arrangements and bookings

Communications

  • Work closely with the Executive Director and Marketing & Communications Director to collaborate and draft MI communications. Communications include but are not limited to website content, e-newsletters, fundraiser appeals, annual report, and media-related postings.
  • Assist with special projects, as assigned
  • Provide general editing and communications support to full staff

Grant Management

  • Research grant opportunities
  • Working with the Executive Director and program managers, draft and edit letters of inquiries, grant proposals, and grant reporting
  • Manage online grant applications and grant reporting. Gather relevant documentation, obtain required narratives from program leaders, and submit.
  • Secure all required supplemental documentation, including letters of support and budgets
  • Write well-organized, compelling proposal drafts that follow the requirements of the RFP and submit for review to the Executive Director, and if applicable, to partners, adhering strictly to timelines/deadlines throughout the process
  • Make edits or revisions to drafts, as required, in a timely manner

Programmatic

  • Serve as project manager for special projects, at the request of the Executive Director, which may include: planning and coordinating multiple presentations, disseminating information, and organizing events
  • Assist with Marion Institute programs, including the SouthCoast Food Policy Council.
  • Collaborate with multiple partner organizations
  • Work independently and within a team on special, nonrecurring and ongoing projects
  • Attend events on behalf of the Executive Director
  • Additional duties, as assigned

Requirements & Skills:


The candidate must possess the following:

  • Commitment to food justice and equity
  • Enthusiasm, resourcefulness, and positive can-do attitude
  • Respect for diversity of opinion, experience, and background
  • Strong writing and editing skills
  • Ability to effectively work on several projects simultaneously, maintaining superb interpersonal skills under pressure, using excellent judgment, and producing high quality products within tight time constraints
  • Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office Word, and Excel, and ability to learn online grant submission systems
  • Experience with nonprofit development appeal and/or grant writing preferred but not required

Additional Details:
 

This position reports to the Executive Director.

Occasional night and weekend work is required.

Employment Type

This is a 20 hour per week part-time hourly position, potential for additional hours and to develop into full-time employment. Wage commensurate with experience.
