Job Description: UNAGB Education Director

Our Mission The United Nations Association of Greater Boston (UNAGB) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to building a strong network of global citizens in the Greater Boston area. We inform, inspire, and mobilize members of the community to engage with critical global issues central to the work and mission of the United Nations.

About the Position:

  • Full-time, 40 hours per week, exempt, reporting to the Executive Director
  • Work is currently remote, with availability to go into the office at the Schrafft Center in Charlestown (as conditions allow). This person must be based in Boston to come into the office more regularly once in-person events resume (exact date TBD, likely Fall 2021).
  • Some evening, early morning (7:00am), and weekend work required

Qualifications:

  • BA or BS required; MA in education preferred
  • Active drivers license and willingness to drive to schools throughout region
  • 4+ years of K-12 teaching experience required in district, private, after school/extracurricular or camp setting required; experience with MA History/Social Standards preferred
  • 2+ years of management experience (of programs and/or people) strongly preferred
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills
  • Strong operations mindset, organizational abilities, systems thinking, and attention to detail
  • Exceptional ability to work in a collaborative, team dynamic with other staff, volunteers, and interns
  • Consummate learner: curious, reflective, open to feedback, excellent listener and innovator
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google suite; design/communications experience with MailChimp, Canva, Adobe, photography, video or graphic design preferred
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds
  • A strong commitment to the United Nations Association of Greater Boston’s mission, especially its impact on local youth

Responsibilities Overview: Responsible for the impact, quality, and growth of UNAGB’s youth education program.

Overall management of the Education Program (90%)

  • Strategic leadership of and responsibility for UNAGB’s Education Programs, including: Conferences, Institute, and In-Class program. Manages staff and consultants to deliver UNAGB’s Model UN programs that are safe, inclusive, and inspiring for all learners (some direct students and teachers facing program delivery as well). Responsible for fee-based structure and grant writing.
  • Specifically charged with leading the equitable growth of UNAGB’s In Class program. This includes leadership of curriculum development designed to engage all learners, recruiting new schools to join the program, overseeing and providing teacher support, and, with the Executive Director, stewarding grant/donor relationships with current funders.
  • Administrative Support (approximately 10% of time) Perform administrative duties within UNAGB to help create a well-functioning environment and provide administrative support on multiple projects based on organizational priorities. This work will include, but is not limited to, scheduling, survey administration, follow-ups with volunteers and donors, drafting correspondences, digital organization/file management, financial management, printing/collating and other administrative projects as needed. Some in-office work and various errands (Post Office, bank, etc.) will be required.

In a dynamic organization like UNAGB roles and responsibilities are ever-evolving in response to the changing needs of our community, especially during and emerging from the COVID-19 pandemic. Other responsibilities may arise based on organizational need.
