Job Description

Director of Development and Communications

Based in downtown Boston, the Jewish Alliance for Law and Social Action (JALSA) is a social justice organization, devoted to defending civil rights, preserving constitutional liberties, and pursuing social, economic, environmental, and racial justice for all people.

We’re seeking an enthusiastic, organized, and collaborative Director of Development and Communications, to be an instrumental part of a small, hard-working and collegial team.

This full time position includes planning and coordinating the annual development cycle, including event management, seasonal appeals, grants management and general fundraising efforts.  You will also work in conjunction with the Executive Director on communications to donors, board members, press and the public.

Responsibilities include:

Development

·       Working with the leadership team to develop and implement the annual fundraising plan.

·       Managing mail appeals (annual), collateral materials and digital communications.

·       Keeping contact lists up to date.

·       Coordinating events, including the Annual Meeting, and at least two other smaller house parties.

·       Preparing grant applications and reports.

·       Developing a Planned Giving program.

·       Working closely with the ED and board members on high-level individual gifts.

 

Communications

·       Working with the Executive Director on weekly board reports and action alerts.

·       Drafting press releases, speeches, op-eds, testimony and quotes.

·       Maintaining JALSA’s social media presence.

 

Qualifications and skills:

·       College degree plus at least 2 years of development experience at a nonprofit organization (will consider other experience with a great explanation).

·       Knowledge and experience in a range of fundraising techniques, particularly annual appeals, donor communications, and events.

·       Strong writing and customer service skills.

·       Attention to detail.
