Job Description

The Charles River Conservancy seeks a team player who is eager to learn and grow to work closely with the Executive Director and other staff to implement our multifaceted development plan that incorporates individual donors, foundation/corporate support, and events. Founded in 2000, The CRC is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that strives to make the Charles River and its parks a well-maintained network of natural urban places that invite and engage all in their use and stewardship. In partnership with the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation, as well as other State, City and local stakeholders, the Conservancy promotes the active use and vitality of the parks along the river, increases recreational and cultural opportunities, and works to ensure the beauty and integrity of this extraordinary public resource. In order to carry out our ambitious strategic plan, we need the financial resources to support both current operations and new initiatives. The Development Coordinator will play a key role in enabling our exciting, mission-based work. Key Responsibilities: Gifts Management and Reporting • Process incoming donations and bills, update donor database (Filemaker), and prepare acknowledgment letters • Track revenue, including pledges and invoices, providing weekly reports for the Executive Director • Prepare documents for the Bookkeeper, and reconcile all credit card and check • Work with the Operations and Project Manager to reconcile receivables and prepare monthly financial reports Executive Director/Board Support • Schedule, staff, prepare materials for and prepare minutes of meetings of the Board of Directors as well as the Development and the Finance Committees • Support the Executive Director and the Development Committee in major donor cultivation by drafting communications, providing written donor histories, scheduling meetings and follow-up • Working with the Executive Director and our Development Consultant, project and track anticipated annual revenue Foundation/Corporate Grants • Work with Executive Director to manage the foundation and corporate grant program, including prospect research, maintaining the submission/reporting calendar, collecting and formatting grant proposal content, tracking submissions, and preparing reports and an annual analysis Marketing • Develop lists for mailings • Work with Communications and Outreach Coordinator on design, printing and mailing of collateral • Maintain CRC’s fundraising webpages Events • Assist with logistics of several small cultivation events each year • Coordinate with event consultants as needed • Provide support for Conservancy events Office Administration • Assist in the onboarding and training of new employees • Purchase office supplies Qualifications Needed: • A demonstrated interest in the mission of the Charles River Conservancy • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent • Minimum one year’s experience in a development office required • Strong verbal and written communication skills • Highly organized with meticulous attention to detail both in writing and in data entry • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite of products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) • Ability to manage projects, timelines, budgets • Familiarity with Filemaker or other CRM system preferred • Ability to work independently to develop and execute priorities and in a dynamic team environment • Willingness to help with tasks outside this job description on an as-needed basis • Ability to be professional and discrete when dealing with confidential or sensitive materials • Ability to work some evenings and Saturdays • Ability to successfully pass a CORI (Criminal Offender Record Information) check To Apply: Send a cover letter and résumé, with listing of three references to crc@thecharles.org.
