Job Description

JOB OVERVIEW

Judge Baker Children’s Center (JBCC), a nonprofit committed to making high-quality children’s mental health care accessible to all children and families, is looking for an enthusiastic development professional to join their team. In collaboration with the Vice President of Advancement, the Development Associate will assist with event management, seasonal appeals, and general fundraising efforts to support Judge Baker’s direct services. This position will support the stewardship of current donors and the creation of opportunities to connect with prospective supporters. General development experience is ideal, as is an interest in expanding a major gifts program, but creative thinking, a customer service-oriented approach, and enthusiasm for mission-driven work are key to this position.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Special events: Provide event management support to initiatives that raise funds and awareness about the mission of JBCC, including an annual golf tournament, a community-based speaker series, and a biennial gala. This includes coordinating event committee meetings, communicating with donors and sponsors, managing mailing lists and registration systems, coordinating vendors and site logistics, and designing print and web-based marketing materials when possible. As we strive to make our events stand out, a proactive approach and willingness to think outside of the box is key.
Raiser’s Edge and Gift Processing:
Manage and streamline Raiser’s Edge database, including system upgrades, troubleshooting, maintenance, and routine reporting. Although Raiser’s Edge experience is ideal, and ability to quickly learn and become proficient in this donor management system is most important.
Oversee the processing of all gifts, including updating donor records in Raiser’s Edge and mailing thank you and acknowledgment letters. Work with the Finance Office to code gifts appropriately and reconcile fundraising reports on a monthly basis.
General development responsibilities:
Manage appeals and fundraising-related communications. Produce mailing lists, work with Trustees around their personalized outreach, manage the mailing process, and track all gifts.
Work with Marketing and Communications Specialist to develop cohesive communications plans and materials for development-related initiatives.
Assist with thank you and appeal letters and communications on behalf of Board members and staff who request assistance.
Support and coordinate the meetings of the Development Committee and event committees as needed.
Manage and streamline all aspects of on-line giving, including website management and gift processing.
Administrative support: Provide administrative support to the Vice President of Advancement, the Grants and Foundations Relations Manager, and throughout the organization as needed. Prepare materials, reports, and communications for specific projects, Board and Development Committee meetings. Prepare fiscal reports on fundraising activities as needed.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

Bachelor’s degree with two to five years of event management or development experience. A self-starting attitude, appreciation of the mission of JBCC, and curiosity about best practices in fundraising and special events is critical.
Must be customer-service oriented with excellent communication skills. Strong relationship management skills are required when working with Board members, event chairs, committee members, donors, sponsors and vendors.
Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite products, including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel. If not experienced in Raiser’s Edge, must have an ability to learn and manage this donor management system.
Must have experience in the administration of email and direct mail campaigns as related to fundraising appeals. An ability to design print and web-based marketing and collateral materials is ideal, as is experience in managing the distribution of these materials (ex. social media, email blasts, and mail house coordination).
Must be able to work independently and as part of a team, bringing flexibility, a sense of confidence and humor, strong time management skills, and an ability to handle multiple projects to this position.

SALARY RANGE $55,000-$65,000
