Community Engagement Coordinator AmeriCorps Ambassador of Mentoring

Mass Mentoring Partnership AmeriCorps Ambassadors of Mentoring support mentoring across the Commonwealth to improve positive outcomes for youth by building capacity in key program areas such as mentor recruitment, screening, and training. Projects focus on developing new or strengthening current mentoring programming to serve youth ages 7-24.

Position Description:
Boston Partners in Education (Boston Partners) is seeking an Ambassador of Mentoring to serve as the Community Engagement Coordinator for 2020-2021. The Ambassador’s primary goals will be to review and recommend suggestions to increase youth engagement and agency towards mentee recruitment and strengthen our partnerships with teachers and schools. The Ambassador will also continue to build our capacity in community outreach and mentor recruitment in our targeted neighborhoods, specifically Roxbury, Dorchester and Mattapan. Finally, the Ambassador will continue the work to build upon our volunteer engagement strategies and increase our match support capacity.

Project Responsibilities:

• Conduct and support recruitment of volunteers to increase the number of students served, particularly in Roxbury, Dorchester, and Mattapan through a variety of online postings, recruitment fairs and community events
• Help to build a more robust system for volunteer engagement and ongoing training support throughout volunteers’ mentoring
• Interview and match new potential volunteers
• Implement our community outreach and mentor recruitment strategies, through maintaining our online presence and raising community awareness and connectedness
• Research and recommend strategies for student engagement in the matching and match support process to help ensure higher quality matches

Qualifications:

• Experience with and commitment to youth development and Boston neighborhoods preferred
• A commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging within nonprofits and Boston Public Schools
• A passion for volunteerism and community service
• The desire to work with diverse people, organizations and communities
• Flexible work schedule as outreach events may include evenings or weekends
• Proficiency with Google G Suite applications
• Excellent organization, research and communication skills
• The ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Must be a U.S. citizen, national, or legal permanent resident alien
• Must be willing to undergo a National Service Criminal History Check, including screenings through the National Sex Offender Public Website, a name-based search of the statewide criminal history registry and a fingerprint based FBI check. *Eligibility to participate in the AAoM program is contingent on the results of this screening

Position Benefits:
For an eleven month, full-time commitment and 1,700 hours of AmeriCorps service Fellows receive:
