Boston Area Rape Crisis Center (BARCC)

Job Description

Provide high quality case management services in English and Spanish to survivors;
ensuring that their housing, economic stability, health insurance, long-term
trauma-informed mental health concerns and basic needs are met in alignment with
BARCC’s mission and philosophy.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES SECTION
:   

  • Provide clients with assistance on a variety of issues, including housing, financial resources, health insurance, and public benefits. 
    • Communicate resources, screen for eligibility, assist with applications and provide verifications, collaborate with providers. 
    • Provide accompaniment(s) to the Department of Transitional Assistance to support clients through the process of applying for public benefits.
  • Apply to become a Certified Application Counselor(CAC) to assist clients with specific health insurance needs. Maintain role as a Certified Application Counselor (CAC) with MassHealth/the Health Connector. 
    • Complete yearly recertification courses and test for CAC role
    • Participate in ongoing conference calls and courses to maintain CAC certification and relevant knowledge. 
    • Screen for eligibility for affordable health insurance, assist with applications and sending verifications, educate clients on coverage options. 
  • Once certified, provide consultations to client services staff on health insurance rights and eligibility requirements.
  • Support clients around affordable housing search needs
    • Develop housing search plan for clients after they have completed housing search intake
    • Identify eligibility for housing programs, specific applications available, and potential barriers to accessing affordable housing. 
    • Maintain and update lists of affordable rental waitlists and lottery opportunities on a weekly ba
  • Collaborate with client services staff on cases requiring multi-disciplinary intervention. 
  • Maintain accurate records of services provided to clients as enumerated in program/agency protocol. Ensure that records are completed in a timely manner and comply with BARCC’s record keeping guidelines. 
    • Record client sessions, barriers, goals and referrals in Salesforce. Upload relevant documents to client records 
  • Collaborate with agencies that focus on issues relevant to the case management concerns of BARCC clients.
    • Provide consultations to community partners working with survivors with case management concerns, particularly when related to health insurance concerns.
  • Participate in trainings to continue to improve knowledge on available resources,   focusing on health insurance, and eligibility requirements.
  • Attend coalition and round table provider meetings to network, build relationships with providers and improve knowledge on existing resources to address clients’  needs.
  • Provide back up  day-to-day support of case management interns. 
    • Answer client and resource related questions for interns 
    • Train and mentor intern on housing search role. 
  • Participate in regular individual and team supervision, department meetings, and staff meetings.
  • Participate in meetings with the Development team to discuss case management services and client needs in relation to funding/grant opportunities.

Specific quantitative outputs required

  • Provide up to 24  hours of client support weekly, including direct client communication, collateral work, and administrative work. 
  • Complete up to 4 hours of housing search work weekly. 
  • Participate in program development meetings with internal and external stakeholders for up to 4 hours per week. 
  • Allocate up to 4 hours per week on professional development opportunities and certification. 


QUALIFICATIONS:
 

  • Minimum of 2 years related direct service work experience, such as housing, health insurance, financial   resources, and public benefits is required
  • BSW degree or related field required
  • Knowledge of benefit systems, health insurance and housing systems
  • Written and verbal fluency in English and Spanish required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS SECTION: 

Phone work – stationary activity- must enjoy talking on the phone

Willing to accompany clients and provide direct support to survivors at external locations (i.e. Department of Transition Assistance)

Must be willing to research and apply most up-to-date knowledge of resources and eligibility. 

Able to collaborate and build relationships with various different providers. 

Able to communicate fluently in spoken and written Spanish. 

Able to articulately communicate and support BARCC community about case management services 

STARTING SALARY RANGE AND BENEFITS
$45,000 - $55,000 depending on experience and skills. The total compensation package includes a generous benefits package, including health, dental, vision, paid time off and retirement plan.
